Tips for moving

One week prior to your move

Check if your friends are still coming to help
Arrange for someone to watch your children and pets on the day of the move
Inform the landlord (if you will be using the inside lift for example )
Cancel your library membership and return books/ CDs etc.
Store important papers that are not immediately needed and valuable possessions (possibly bring them to the bank temporarily)
Clean the new house and give the rooms numbers
Remove fixed lamps and only hang bulbs in the new house
Pack away stuff you do not need anymore
Make sure you have meals ready for the evening of the move and the day of the move
Is there enough coffee, tea, soft drinks and other necessities available in the new and the old house?

Call in the municipal cleaning services for bulky waste
Secure the washing machine drum lock
Empty and clean household waste containers (also leave the household waste calendar behind)
Take the contents of the chemo box to the appropriate depot
Defrost and clean the fridge
Set the full freezer on the coldest setting
Disassemble furniture
Reserve a parking spot for a moving van by parking your own car and that of the neighbours there
Pack the last stuff
